Oh, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas … I WISH! Retailers and online websites love that “Xmas in July” strategy, and I have to admit that I’m a sucker for it, too. With temperatures rising astronomically — and the awful news of the world heating up as well — it’s great to have a more peaceful and joyful mind-set to embrace.
With July ticking down, and the dog days of August getting ready to leap upon us, I’m thankful for Aurora’s line of plush goodies. I recently received a sneak peek at some of their offerings, and it raised my spirits immeasurably. Talk about Christmas in July — this is Christmas, Kwanzaa, and Hanukkah all snowballed into one desirable and adorable package. Yep, that’s how many incredible new offerings are sliding down the slope from Aurora.
Let me kick off with their Gnomlins, which are a fantastical hybrid of the Hobbit meets the Seven Dwarves meet the Elves of Santa’s Workshop. The Aurora PR team has posed a very cute question about these cuddly guys: “Why settle for just an Elf on the Shelf when you can have a gnome for your home?” That makes absolute sense to me! I love that idea of having these miniature fellows popping up in my curio cabinet, or bounding across my sideboard, or maybe even nestling in my manger. Who knows!
They come in different sizes and are ideal for dreaming up different displaying and/or hiding places. (Personal testimonial: My 11-year-old daughter is mad for the musical “Gnomeo and Juliet” and fell head over heels in love with these Gnomlin characters. When she sees the Travelocity Gnome on TV, she gets all giddy and giggly. So, having a pair of these gnomes to call her own is an absolute high point!)
Another really delightful debut are the Fabbies, which are super sweet and super charming critters. These five pooches and one kitty cat are made of tweed rather than faux fur or some kind of alpaca. The designers have concocted a line of animals that are ideal for giving that extra helping of “oooomph” to a décor scheme or a room’s theme. Made to be a “bridge gift” — one that connects the generations, not just for kiddies — the Fabbies live up to their name.
They really do look fabulous! As a committed cat fancier — though I do have a special place in my heart for French bulldogs — I wish there were more than just one feline in the pack. Maybe if the premiere collection does well, there will be more cats running with the big boys.
When my daughter isn’t swooning over gnomes and goblins, she’s also going gaga for the denizens of the Harry Potter universe. Yes, magic and make-believe are still major parts of her preteen life (thank goodness). So, I am partial to the Aurora World’s Precious Moments Everyday Collection. Their “Nigel the Snowy Owl” is a definite dead ringer for Potter’s pet, Hedwig the Snowy Owl, isn’t it? I am sure any Potterphile who catches a gander of this creation will be clamoring to have one. (I’m debating whether or not to show it to my daughter — I mean, how many stuffed animals can one tween own!)
Nigel Snowy Owl has that impeccable Potter feel to it, so I know that it will be flying off the shelves for folks who can’t get enough of anything related to Hogwarts Academy. Another scene-stealing Precious Moments creation is the Everyday Collection teddy bear named “Charlie Bear.” He wears a tag that proclaims how he is “So Beary Sweet” — and that is absolutely true! The bear is a heart stealer. With his large, luminous eyes and grinning mouth, he is sure to melt hearts.
The Precious Moments Baby Collection is exceptionally endearing as well. I love their praying, kneeling teddy bear and their gentle, pleading lamb. My last personal testament — courtesy of my youngest daughter, once again — concerns the importance of huggable, adorable lamb toys. My daughter has been cuddling and sleeping with her toy lamb — named “Lambie,” what else? — since she was a year old. It is her oldest and most loved possession. Poor Lambie has gone from being snowy white — snowier than even a Snowy Owl — to being a kind of dingy gray slush. His color has changed over the years, and no bleach or detergent can restore him to his former glistening glory. Despite his fading coloration, he is still the king of my daughter’s hug.
I think Precious Moments’ “Luffie Lamb” has that same kind of staying power. Aurora has matched it with a tag that promotes it as “Heaven’s Blessing,” and I think this cute, cuddly little lamb doll will be a blessing to its new owner. Luffie has a winsome and beseeching look to its face. I can imagine any young toddler gravitating to it and turning Luffie into a beloved crib, and then bunk, mate.
These are the precious moments of our lives, aren’t they? When we find a toy or a stuffed animal for our children to love and to grow up with, it connects us to them. Precious Moments understands that, and so does Aurora. They are giving us a lot of moments and a menagerie to happily choose from.
