The official Team GB Commemorative Teddy Bear was unveiled Monday, April 16, in celebration of the Great Britain Olympic team at London 2012. Each of these iconic teddy bears has been entirely handmade in England by small family business and licensee Merrythought Ltd, and only 5,000 have been produced.
Designed and created by Merrythought’s team of teddy bear artisans, the bear is made from the softest white mohair wool and has fully moveable limbs. It also features the Team GB logo, a hand-stitched cotton nose, and is finished with a satin ribbon. Each collectable Team GB teddy bear is numbered individually from 1 to 5,000 and comes in a British-made black-and-gold box.
This unique piece of official Team GB merchandise was entirely handmade within the original Shropshire borough of Much Wenlock — believed to be the inspiration behind the modern Olympic Games — by what is the last toy factory of its kind still producing in Britain today.
Hugh Chambers, Commercial Director for the British Olympic Association said, “We are delighted to have this thoroughly British bear produced to commemorate Team GB for the London 2012 Games.”
The Team GB Teddy Bear is available for purchase at www.london2012.com/shop, John Lewis, and other retailers.
